Another Great Result

THANK YOU TO Costas Costi and his brother Spiros for holding the Sponsored Lunch at the Lilac Restaurant on Sunday 24th January 2016.

We raised the Grand Sum of £408 from the lunch, raffle and Donations.

The money from this event and from the Tea Party held at the Arundel Hotel on Sunday 17th January goes towards the cost of the Roof Works which have now been completed.
THANK YOU Loukia (Brighton) for the delicious Greek Cakes, and Thank you to all who donated raffle prizes and for all who joined us on both events to make them so successful.
Anyone else wanting to sponsor an event is welcome to let us know.

The Ongoing works listed below are going ahead.

  1. Repair of two flat roofs £1,370 work complete
  2. Plastering of Ceiling by door and side wall, patching ceiling above stairs to gallery and filling in cracks and holes left by microphones on both windows £250 by Ray Bridger
  3. Guttering outside priest’s room and to the side of side door awaiting estimate
  4. Ramps to toilet and rear door with handle bars and raising front door mat and side door mat and supplying and fitting disabled bar for toilet awaiting estimate
  5. Decorating and flooring toilets
  6. Fitting of 3 lights in church, fix existing sensor light and add three further Sensor lights
  7. Pay contribution for prayer bench Bible holder (Psalterion) for materials as George very kindly did the work for free
  8. Repairing floor boards around church which are rotting and unsafe and repairs to door frames
  9. Applying damp proof paint to wall at front of church near the upper gallery and also rear wall of school
  10. Having existing microphone fitted to school
  11. If Sensible Solutions do not fix exterior wall of priest room and kitchen then we will have to repair wall and redecorate priest back room
  12. Render exterior walls were necessary supply scaffolding and fix guttering which is hanging from roof

EASTBOURNE CHURCH GREEK NIGHT

St Panteleimon and St Theodoros

24/10/2015   At The Afton Hotel

We hope you all had a very enjoyable evening dancing the night away and eating the lovely food and the company of each other.

All the lovely dishes meats, ham, beef, turkey, chicken, salads, pasta salads, pastichio, vine leaves, meatballs, moussaka, stuffed peppers, rice dishes, desserts, olives, tsatsiki etc. were all prepared and donated by the community. Without the donation of the food this would have cost several hundred pounds and we would not have been able to achieve the wonderful result.

A big Thank You to all those who donated food, money and their time and also thank you all those who donated raffle prizes and those who supported the event by attending and buying tickets raffle tickets and the various items that were on sale.

The Profit made from the Greek Night was £1,850.00

The money raised will go towards the expenses and maintenance of our church and the Priest.

Day Trip to Essex – Update

Daytrip to our beloved St John The Baptist Monestary in Essex

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ.

Come and join us on Thursday 24 September for a daytrip to our beloved St John The Baptist Monestary in Essex to celebrate with them the Feast Day of Saint Silhouan.

St Silouan was the Elder and Spiritual Inspiration behind the Founder of The Saint John The Baptist Monestary, the late Father Sophrony.

St Silouan The Athonite was born in 1866 in Shovsk a village in Tambov,a Russian State. When he was 26 he went to Mount Athos and became a Monk. He was a true Ascetic and received the Grace of Unceasing Prayer and inner stillness. He acquired great Humility. He Prayed and wept for the whole World and put the highest value on love for enemies. He was barely literate, however, was sought by many pilgrims for his wise Counsel. God counted him worthy to have a vision of Christ.

His writings were edited by his disciple and pupil, Archimindrite Sophrony of Essex who wrote the life of the Saint along with a record of St Silouan’s teachings in the book “SAINT SILOUAN THE ATHONITE”.

Starets Silouan reposed on 24 September 1938 on Mount Athos and was Canonized by Ecumenical Patriarchate Demetrius in 1987.

Αγαπητοί αδελφοί.

Την Πέμπτη 24 Σεπτεμβρίου η ενορία μας θα πραγματοποιήσει μονοήμερη προσκυνηματική εκδρομή στην Ιερά Μονή Τιμίου Προδρόμου στο Έσσεξ επειδή εκείνη την ημέρα εορτάζεται η μνήμη του Οσίου Σιλουανού του Αθωνίτη.

Ο Άγιος Σιλουανός υπήρξε ο γέροντας και πνευματικός καθοδηγητής του Αρχιμανδρίτη Σωφρονίου κτήτορος της Μονής του Εσσεξ.

Ο Όσιος Σιλουανός γεννήθηκε το έτος 1866 στο Shovsk της διοικήσεως Ταμπώφ στην Ρωσία. Στην ηλικία των 26 ετών ο Άγιος μας εγκατέλειψε τον κόσμο και εκάρη μοναχός στο Άγιο Όρος. Εκεί καλλιέργησε την εσωτερική ησυχία και έλαβε τη Χάρη της αδιαλείπτου προσευχής. Ο Όσιος Σιλουανός έφθασε σε μεγάλα μέτρα ταπεινώσεως. Προσευχόταν μετά δακρύων για όλο τον κόσμο και δίδασκε ως ύψιστη αρετή την αγάπη προς τον πλησίον και ειδικότερα την αγάπη προς τους εχθρούς. Αν και ήταν ολιγογράμματος πολλοί προσκυνητές αναζητούσαν τους ένθεους και σοφούς του λόγους. Αξιώθηκε να δεί σε όραμα τον Σωτήρα Χριστό

Τα γραπτά του Αγίου Σιλουανού εκδόθηκαν από τον μαθητή του Αρχιμανδρίτη Σωφρόνιο του Έσσεξ, ο οποίος κατέγραψε το βίο αλλά και τη διδασκαλία του Αγίου στο βιβλίο

The Funeral is on Monday 30th March 2015 at 1pm

At the Greek Orthodox Church of St Panteleimon and St Theodore
30 Cavendish Place Eastbourne followed by burial service at Langney Cemetery.

There will be a Wake after the burial and details of venue will be given at the Funeral Service.
